Polyglot Theatre tours to the United States of America

In 2018, Polyglot Theatre celebrates its ninth year of touring to the United States of America. In June, with support from the Australia Council for the Arts, the company is taking Ants to the Ann Arbor Summer Festival in Michigan and the Long Island Children’s Museum in New York.

This will be the first time that Polyglot has been presented at the Long Island Children’s Museum, and the company is excited to connect with the institution, with its core values so similar to Polyglot’s own. The Museum’s mission is: “Connecting all our communities’ children, and those who care for them, to one another and to a life of wonder, imagination and exploration. Here, children discover their passions and their relationship to the world we share.” Polyglot looks forward to performing in “a learning space devoted to the busy work of play.”

Sue Giles, Polyglot’s Artistic Director, writes, “The children’s museums in the United States of America are amazing – whole organisations focused on young people and their relationship to the world. We’re thrilled to be working at Long Island Children’s Museum, in a place that values kids, exploration and inclusion, demonstrates access and has a vital interest in the arts.”

This tour marks Polyglot’s second time at the Ann Arbor Summer Festival. The boutique music and arts festival is a celebration of performing arts, outdoor entertainment and community spirit, and presents its 35th edition in 2018. Ants is appearing in the outdoor program, Top of the Park. This is held along a beautiful campus green and offers free concerts, blockbuster movies by moonlight, open-air spectacles, and unique family attractions.

Sue continues, “Ann Arbour Summer Festival has hosted Polyglot before and it is so wonderful to be returning to a place and an event that so highly values children and families. As part of a festival that embraces community, we know that our child-led work Ants will resonate beautifully.”

In 2017, Polyglot enjoyed two tours to the United States America. The first saw We Built This City performed in Pittsburgh at the EQT Children’s Theater Festival. Ants then toured to the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and Breckenridge International Festival of Arts.
